Here are four crucial questions you need answers to before hiring your roofing contractor.
Question 1 – Are They Covered?
Does the contractor have a license to work where you live? Does he have workers’ compensation and public liability insurance and what is the amount covered?
Question 2 – Are They Reputable?
Does this contractor have a credible and verifiable reputation? You should be given references and they ideally they should be three years or older.
Question 3 – Are You Covered?
Will this contractor give you a warranty to cover the work he does? The warranty must cover roof defects and have a reasonable minimum coverage period.
Question 4 – What’s Included?
What’s actually covered in the contractor’s quote? Will he provide a written inspection report? Will his quote cover a precise plan of all work to be done? Is there a clause to cover additional unforeseen work? Does it cover a complete clean up at the end of the job?
Extra Questions
Will he give you his contact numbers? Does he work on the weekend? Does he supervise other people who come in to do aspects of the work? Will he do a final inspection?
If he has to hire sub-contractors, they also need to meet all of the above criteria in writing.
